What the film is about:

The film is about an old movie star and a conflicted newlywed meeting up as strangers in Tokyo and building a relationship.

Deconstruction:

In this first shot the sounds that are missing are the main characters’ footsteps, the voice of the trainstation person talking over the speakers and the sound of trains coming in and out of the station a bit further away. This will enhance the visuals because it will help the audience to feel like they are actually in a train station in Japan and connect to the film more.

In this shot all that’s missing is the wildtrak of birds and the wind going through the trees and just general outdoors sounds. This will enhance the visuals because it will create a better feeling in the film.

In this shot the sounds that will need adding are the wildtrak of the outdoors and the sounds of the group of teenagers talking, laughing and moving around. This will enhance the visuals by building on the audience’s imagination.

The missing sounds of this shot are the wildtrak of the outdoors and the footsteps of the main character, the footsteps will change when walking through a covered area and become more echoey. This will enhance the visuals by making it seem more realistic to the audience.

For this shot where the main character is standing still watching over the scenery I would like to fade the sounds out so there is just silence, the sound will start again when she begins to move. This will enhance the visuals because it will show the significance of the moment and make it more effective.

This shot is missing the wildtrak of the outdoors and the sound of the main character walking through trees which will be different to when she was walking on through the building and up the stairs. This will enhance the visuals by helping the audience connect to what’s happening on screen more.

This shot is missing the wildtrak of the outdoors and the footsteps of the 8 people walking along and up the stairs. This will enhance the visuals by making the scene more realistic.

Identifying the sounds:

  • Main characters footsteps- I could record this by either recording someone walking outside or by recreating it with a pair of shoes on the floor.
  • The voice of the trainstation person talking over the speakers- I could record this by having a friend of mine speak some Japanese and record themselves then I can use effects to make it sound like the voice is coming through a speaker.
  • Sound of trains coming in and out of the station- This sound will be harder to create and I could either cheat a little bit and get the sound off the internet or do some research and find something to recreate the sound with.
  • Wildtrak of birds and the wind going through the trees and just general outdoors sounds- I could record this sound by going into a forest and recording the sound because this is quite a common sound.
  • Sounds of the group of teenagers talking, laughing and moving around- I could record this sound by getting a friend of mine to speak Japanese and changing the pitches to make it sound like there are multiple people talking, I will also have to record a laughing track and the sound of their footsteps.
  • The more echoey sound of the main character’s footsteps when she’s walking through the covered area- I could record this sound by taking the sound of the footsteps I have already recorded and adding reverb to create an echoing effect.
  • Sound of the main character walking through trees- I could record this sound by going to a forest and recording the sound of someone walking through the trees.
  • The footsteps of the 8 people walking along and up the stairs- I could record this sound by taking the sound of the footsteps i have already recorded and layering them to create the impression that multiple people are walking.
